Job Description

SMCC is looking for an adjunct instructor to teach Principles of Computer Science for the Spring 2018 semester.  The semester runs January 16 - May 12, 2018.

This course covers introductory programming in Java, including variables, conditionals, methods, recursion, loops, arrays, and introductory objects.  Curriculum is fully developed, with weekly content in video format available to students.  This is a "flipped' classroom format, with the lecture content online, so there is no in-class lecture.  The instructor is responsible for creating a welcoming, productive classroom climate, reviewing previous material with students, presenting new material in an abbreviated format, answering questions, and helping students as they work through weekly projects.  The instructor will also grade weekly labs and projects, and offer comments on projects regarding coding style.

All course content is in Blackboard.  Students use JEdit and the command line to build and run programs, and transition to NetBeans over the course of the semester.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with a diverse student population, and is an excellent programmer and troubleshooter.

Prior teaching experience and industry experience required.  Master's degree preferred.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and list of 3 professional references toHR@smccME.edu or mail to SMCC, HR Office, 2 Fort Road, South Portland, ME 04106
