Employer's Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Director of Network and Infrastructure Services manages the division responsible for the campus computer network and all associated servers, hardware and software; the campus telephone system; and the external services required to link the College with external telecommunications systems. The Director supervises networking and telecommunications staff and serves as principal ILS contact on major building projects, serving on project teams as required. The Director is responsible for being aware of new and emerging technologies in computing, networking and telecommunications and able to plan for their future impact. The Director is also responsible for budgetary management, including capital replacement forecasting. The Director is a member of the ILS Leadership Team and works with ILS and College department heads and managers to implement computing and networking systems to meet the academic and administrative needs of the College.


Job Duties:

  • 100% - • Directs the deployment of network, server, and telecommunications technology. Consults with ILS directors and end users on hardware and software needs. Develops and implements projects to meet these needs, and identifies priorities, resource requirements, timetables and deadlines. • Works with ILS directors and managers to identify and meet functional requirements for server and network support for ILS projects. • Manages Network and Infrastructure Services staff, including network and systems administrators, telecommunications staff, support technicians and project managers. Establishes project priorities and goals, and evaluates and determines priorities among competing requests. • Manages network, infrastructure and telecommunications budgets, and works with the Vice President, staff members in ILS and personnel in the Finance Office to develop and implement long- and short-term budgetary strategies to support the network and infrastructure needs of the College. • Establishes overall goals and plans for network, data centers, servers, storage and telecommunications systems. Assesses the quality of services, and oversees necessary improvements. • Serves as ILS contact on campus Facilities Master Planning Steering Committee to align ILS goals and plans with campus-wide planning. • Serves as principal ILS contact on major campus building projects and serves on project teams as assigned. Acts as resource person within ILS on space planning and construction issues and manages projects as assigned. • Negotiates and consults with computing, networking and telecommunications vendors to evaluate new tools, systems and services and ensures that required services are provided in a cost-effective manner. • Maintains current knowledge of changes in technology including servers, networking, storage, network security and telecommunications areas. Acts as a resource person within ILS on new technologies and services. • Forms a collaborative working relationship with the Director of Information Security, Privacy & Compliance to ensure that processes are in place to maintain system security • Acts as a member of the Information and Library Services Leadership Team to ensure the reliability, performance, and durability of products and services and to achieve functional, organizational, and budgetary goals. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications:


● Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
● Advanced education and/or certifications in systems and networking design, systems security and systems architecture preferred
● Expert knowledge of technologies related to telecommunications, networking and servers.
● Strong oral and written communication skills.


● Experience in the specific technical areas of systems administration, network operations, and data center operations.
● Experience with the mix of on-premise, cloud and hybrid environments.
● Experience managing individuals and teams
● Experience negotiating vendor agreements
● Experience working with people at all levels of the organization
● Experience in higher education preferred

Skills and Knowledge:

● Knowledge of data center administration, both on-premise and cloud-based
● Knowledge of a varied set of technologies, such as server virtualization, advanced networking, identity and access management, and high-performance computing architecture.
● Knowledge of IT operation processes including asset, configuration, change, and incident management.
● Knowledge of national and industry offerings and trends pertaining to design, development, and support of enterprise infrastructure.
● Ability to assess employee performance and implement measures to improve performance
● Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
● Strong time and task management skills.
● Ability to explain complex technical processes to a variety of audiences
● Ability to provide strong leadership under stressful conditions.
